Maracaná Football Stadium *****

See a live soccer game in the largest stadium in the world (100.000 seating capacity). It is one of the best parties in Rio. You can also visit the museum. Bus: Take the bus that says Maracaná on the opposite side of the street of the Botafogo Praia Shopping Center. During the week you can go by metro. Get off at Maracaná Station.

(Sugar Loaf) - This beautiful attraction is just a short walk from El Misti. The Cable Car costs R$ 36, 00. If you have time, try to hike to the top of URCA hill and pay half price to the next mountain (Morro da Urca). It is a beautiful trail.

Sundays on the beaches in Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon *****

is closed to traffic and becomes a great pedestrian street where you can meet Cariocas on some of the most famous beaches of Brazil. More Cariocas spend time on the beach on Sundays than in church! Best spot: Posto 9, "Barraca do Pele" (Pele Tent), just in front of the Sol Ipanema Hotel. This is a great place to rent a beach chair, have drinks and enjoy the beach. People at "Barraca do Pele" will keep your belongings safe when you want to swim or take a walk around.

Samba City *****

is the latest tourist attraction in Rio de Janeiro, occupying an area of 114.000 sq. meters, built in the port district by the City Hall, at Rua Rivadávia Corrêa 60, Gamboa, a district neighboring downtown. There is a reason for this choice of location for the thematic city, since it is here, considered to be "Sacred Ground", that the Carioca samba was born.
The thematic city will transform Samba School activities into a permanent practice. More than a tourist attraction, Samba City has become a production center of genuine Brazilian art.

Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays are the best days to visit this bohemian neighborhood mountain-top area of town. Free entrance to all the museums on Tuesday.. Just take the "Bondinho" (Tram) and get off anywhere to walk around and view this historic area of town. Best attraction: The Ruin Park.
You can have lunch at "Sobrenatural" (typical Brazilian seafood). The shrimp pie ("pastel de camarão") is highly recommended. Bar do Arnaldo is also recommended.
Get there by Metro: Get off at Carioca Station, cross Av. Chile and take the tram that goes to "Morro Dois Irmãos".

Selerón Staircases to Santa Teresa Convent ***

Located at Lapa, downtown - access through Joaquim Silva St.
Staircase that gives access to the Santa Teresa Convent with 215 steps covered in ceramic mosaic in green, yellow and blue, a homage of Selarón, the plastic artists to the Brazilian population. Besides the cracked colored tiles, the laces of staircase also show fullsize tiles, from various parts of the world. Thus it became a collection of tiles with almost 1,000 different pieces. According Selarón, whenever I can get more sophisticated and beautiful old tiles I try to place them on the staircase exchanging them with more recent ones, which makes the visual of the staircase be on a constant change.

"Ruin Park" in Santa Teresa. "Mirante do Sétimo Céu" (Seventh Heaven Lookout) which is a part of the Park Dois Irmãos - walk to the end of Leblon and keep going; go up 70 meters in altitude for an incredible view of the city. "Botafogo Praia Shopping" top floor, one of the best views of Guanabara Bay ( Baía de Guanabara).
